People.
Who are they to you?
I ask because one thing I have realized is that people open up when you are real with them, listen to them, ask about them, connect with them, and are genuinely interested in them.
As I left AZ, I wasn’t sure how I was viewed by my friends and church family. Of course, I made friends in the departments I served in and made sure those with whom I worked with were able to do the work as I had done.
However, I had the best connection with the Jackson family. They had moved to the church during 2018 and I made sure I introduced myself and my boys to the as they had 2 children as well. Turns out we had had many things in common one of which was her father. I worked with him on the sound system before he left. Second was our love of nature. Our children, close in ages, were given many opportunities to be outside and enjoy the environment. Of course we grew close quickly and had times of fun and times of reflection of where we were in life.
Since my departure, we have kept semi in touch. When I go back to Phoenix, we make sure we get together and at least talk, if we don’t take a hike in the desert. I do miss the weekly connection as I know they do, but I know we will be forever friends.
Do you have people you connected with and have since left them physically? What do you do to maintain that relationship?
